Bernadette Peters ( born February 28, 1948) is an American actress, singer, and children's book author. Over her six-decade career Peters has appeared in films and television, as well as performed solo concerts. Critically acclaimed Broadway performer, she was nominated seven times for Tony Awards. She won two of them (plus an honorary), and nine nominations for the Drama Desk Awards. She also received three. Grammy Awards were awarded to four of the Broadway cast albums in which she starred. Peters is considered to be the most important actor to interpret Stephen Sondheim's work is well-known for her work on Broadway. They include the musicals Mack and Mabel (1974), Sunday in the Park with George (1984) and Song and Dance (1985), The Goodbye Girl (1999), Annie Get Your Gun(1999), Annie Get Your Gun(1999), Gypsy (2003), A Little Night Music (2010), Follies (2011), Follies(2011) and Hello, Dolly Peters. Peters was an actress on the 1960s and later on television. This early work, along with her appearances on The Muppet Show, The Carol Burnett Show as and other television shows, was highly praised. Her roles in films like Silent Movie, The Jerk and Pennies from Heaven were also highly acclaimed. In the 1980s, her return to Broadway saw her become one of the Broadway's most loved stars. She has also released six solo albums and a number of singles. Peters continues to perform live on stage, in movies and on TV on shows such as Smash or Mozart in the Jungle. She was nominated for 4 Emmy Awards as well as three Golden Globe Awards. She won once.
